NBA news: Karl-Anthony Towns bounces back to produce career-best playoff performance

Aside from a 29-point performance in Game 1, Karl-Anthony Towns has struggled with consistency so far throughout these playoffs.

Towns took just four shot attempts in Game 3, converting three of them. While the efficiency was there, the Minnesota Timberwolves need a lot more from their franchise superstar if they hope to beat the Memphis Grizzlies.

Towns clearly got the memo in Game 4, as he produced a career-best 33 points in a playoff match, with 8-of-17 shooting. He also had 14 rebounds, as he joined Kevin Garnett as the only player to put up a 30-point and ten rebound performance in a playoff game in Timberwolves history.

The Grizzlies have been throwing multiple defenders Towns in hopes of swamping him out of the game. Towns, however, worked his way around the strategy and headed into the game with a ready-to-attack mentality.

When asked what helped his performance, Towns said, "A bunch of rage.

"Trying to find ways to dominate regardless of what they throw [at me] - double, triple, quadruple, coach comes on the court and guards me as well - and find ways to put the ball in the bucket."

Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch also commented on KAT's mentality heading into a pivotal Game 4.

"He was angry," Finch said. "He was really good from the beginning: aggressive, putting pressure on them, forcing them to blow the whistle, get to the free-throw line, things that he hadn't been doing a lot in the last couple of games."

Indeed, Towns challenged Grizzlies defenders by driving to the rim with reckless abandon, as it got him to the free-throw line 17 times - he converted 14 of those attempts.

"It gives me free shots at the rim," Towns said. "It gives a good touch of the basketball. It gives me a good rhythm. More importantly for me, personally, it allows me to calm down."

Two of those free throws ended up icing the game for Minnesota, and if you ask KAT, he wasn't nervous at all being in that spot.

"I knew it was good - the game was over," Towns said. "I was thinking about what I was going to eat."

People were quick to poke fun at KAT on social media, some saying he's no longer the Timberwolves' franchise player and others saying he's not built for the playoffs.

Bad games are bound to happen on the biggest stage, but little do people realize that the Timberwolves wouldn't be anywhere close to the position they're in right now if it wasn't for KAT's performances.

Even the Grizzlies' franchise player put some respect on KAT's name.

"KAT responded like a superstar should," Ja Morant said.

If we get this version of KAT for the remainder of the series, the Timberwolves could wrap up the win in six or seven games, with the series currently tied up at 2-2.
