Carlos Alcaraz is looking strong as he aims to defend his Madrid Open title, but on Wednesday he faces his biggest test yet in the last eight.
Alcaraz will face talented Russian top-ten star Andrey Rublev in the Madrid Open quarter-finals.

ATP Madrid: Andrey Rublev vs Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Andrey Rublev in straight sets in their only previous clash.
Rublev has yet to drop a set in the Madrid Open and has looked comfortable in all three of his wins.
Alcaraz has had his struggles, finding it tough to put away the man he beat in last season's Madrid Open final in the last 16.
Rublev could test Alcaraz, but his mental fragility might return to haunt him in this one.
ATP Madrid: Taylor Fritz vs Francisco Cerundolo
Francisco Cerundolo and Taylor Fritz both pulled off upsets of sorts in the last 16.
Cerundolo impressively dispatched former Madrid Open champion Alexander Zverev to reach his fourth Masters quarter-final.
Fritz bested an in-form Hubert Hurkacz in his last 16 engagement to record his best-ever run in Madrid.
Cerundolo beat Fritz in their only previous meeting which also happened to come on clay at the 2023 French Open.
ATP Madrid: Daniil Medvedev vs Jiri Lehecka
Daniil Medvedev has beaten Jiri Lehecka before but their only meeting ended with the young Czech retiring.
Lehecka terminated what is likely Rafael Nadal's final Madrid Open run in the previous round.
After battling through back-to-back three-setters, Medvedev saw off Alexander Bublik in with minimum fuss in his fourth-round clash.
Lehecka is aiming to reach the last four in a Masters tournament for the first time ever while Medvedev has already notched a career-best performance in Madrid.
ATP Madrid: Jannik Sinner vs Felix Auger-Aliassime
Felix Auger-Aliassime underlined his credentials with an emphatic Round of 16 win over Casper Ruud to end the Norwegian's unbeaten run in Spain.
Auger-Aliassime will need to generate another upset to reach the last four but at least he faces a player he has beaten twice.
Auger-Aliassime leads the head-to-head between these players 2-0 with both meetings coming in Masters tournaments.
However, Sinner is in terrific form and those meetings came back in 2022 before the young Italian enjoyed his breakout season.
WTA Madrid: Yulia Putintseva vs Elena Rybakina
Elena Rybakina and Yulia Putintseva will face off in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open for what will be their third career meeting.
Both Putintseva and Rybakina are Russian-born players who turn out for Kazakhstan.
While Rybakina has been more successful than Putintseva, her compatriot holds the edge in the head-to-head.
Putintseva has won both the previous meetings between these players but they haven't faced each other since 2021.
WTA Madrid: Mirra Andreeva vs Aryna Sabalenka
Mirra Andreeva might find Aryna Sabalenka beyond the limits of her Madrid Open magic.
Andreeva noted pre-tournament that the Caja Magica seems to be charmed in her favour.
That theory will be put to the test by the defending champion as she faces the world number two who is trying to retain her ranking.
If Andreeva can take a set off Sabalenka she will net her handicap backers a tidy payday.
WTA Madrid: Iga Swiatek vs Madison Keys
Iga Swiatek will have to get through Madison Keys on Thursday if she wants to reach her second Madrid Open final.
Swiatek leads the head-to-head between the players 2-1 but Keys won their most recent clash.
Keys fought back from a set down to book her place in the semi-finals and looks in good touch.
However, the number 18 seed is taking on the undisputed best in the world on clay and there is one result that is far more likely than the other.
