ATP Rome: Zhizhen Zhang vs Thiago Monteiro

Zhizhen Zhang has been one of the surprise packages in Rome and faces Brazil's Thiago Monteiro for the first time with a quarter-final spot on the line.

Qualifier Monteiro has caused a string of upsets already in this tournament and is yet to face a player ranked lower than himself.

Zhang has already achieved his best effort in Rome but a place in the last eight is now in the offing.

Zhang hasn't dropped a set in Rome and could be a tournament dark horse.

ATP Rome: Nicolas Jarry vs Alexandre Muller

Nicolas Jarry holds a 1-0 lead in his rivalry with Frenchman Alexandre Muller and could extend that in Rome.

Jarry doesn't have the best record on clay this season winning six and losing six on the surface but he has found his touch in the Eternal City.

Muller has come through qualifying and saw off Madrid champion Andrey Rublev last time out.

Muller qualified for the main draw here and has already played five matches and spent nine and a half hours on court.

ATP Rome: Alexander Zverev vs Nuno Borges

Nuno Borges has already done some giant slaying in this tournament but he might reach the end of the road here.

Alexander Zverev is a much better player on clay than anyone Borges has beaten to reach this stage.

Borges is aiming to become the first Portuguese player to win the Italian Open.

This will be the first meeting between Borges and Zverev in singles competition at any level.

ATP Rome: Hubert Hurkacz vs Sebastian Baez

Hubert Hurkacz faces another Argentinean opponent after seeing off Tomas Etcheverry in the previous round.

Baez and Hurkacz have not shared a court on the ATP Tour before this meeting.

Baez has played an extra set of tennis and an additional 14 games across his two matches in Rome.

Hurkacz seems to have unravelled the mysteries of winning on clay and will be tough to stop.

ATP Rome: Tommy Paul vs Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev has dominated his rivalry with Tommy Paul winning all three of their meetings.

Medvedev might have complained about court speed but he has also proven tough to beat in long rallies and he saps an opponent's energy.

Paul has so far avoided long matches but might not be able to put the Russian away quickly.

Medvedev would probably like to win a match quickly but is quite at home grinding out a result.

ATP Rome: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alex De Minaur

Stefanos Tsitsipas faces a familiar foe in Alex De Minaur in his last 16 clash.

Tsitsipas has won 12 of the 14 clashes between these two players including all three of their clay court matches.

De Minaur beat Tsitsipas in Acapulco earlier this year and the Greek will be out for revenge.

Tsitsipas has the wood over De Minaur and can be very difficult to face on clay owing to his wristy shotmaking.

WTA Rome: Iga Swiatek vs Madison Keys

Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys meet in WTA 1000 tennis for the fifth time with all their previous clashes coming at this level.

Swiatek leads the head-to-head 3-1 and has beaten Keys in Rome before.

Keys' only win over Swiatek came in a home event for her in Cincinnati two seasons ago.

Swiatek will need to maintain her focus, and if she can do that she shouldn't have a problem breezing past Keys.

WTA Rome: Cori Gauff vs Qinwen Zheng

Qinwen Zheng has found form at a great time while Coco Gauff is looking to improve on her recent record in quarter-final matches.

Gauff and Zheng are both top-ten stars but this will be the first meeting between the two players.

Gauff is 3-2 in WTA Tour quarter-finals this season while her opponent is 1-2.

Zheng has needed three sets to come through her last two clashes and might just run out of steam against Gauff.
