Troicki, Youzhny move on in Rotterdam

2012-02-15 07:31:13

Seventh seed Viktor Troicki and Mikhail Youzhny have booked their places in the second round of the World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam.

Troicki required just 84 minutes to see off Dutch wild card Thiemo de Bakker 7-6(6) 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon.

The 26-year-old Serb admitted afterwards it was difficult to get going following his late arrival in the Netherlands.

“I think we both had a tough start because we came here late, coming from Davis Cup,” Troicki told atptour.com.

“I think I handled it well. I got lucky in the first set I think. He played well, but he did not use his set points and I started playing better in the second set. I’m happy that I won through and am in the second round.”

Youzhny set up a potential second-round clash with world No 3 Roger Federer after beating fellow Russian Igor Kunitsyn in three sets.

World No 31 Youzhny, who won the Rotterdam tournament in 2007, dropped his serve just once and broke his opponent seven times as he won 6-0 6-7(7) 6-0.

The Russian could face top seed Federer if the Swiss player beats Nicolas Mahut on Wednesday.

Spanish eighth-seed Marcel Granollers was the biggest casualty on day two as he lost 6-1 1-6 6-4 to Germany’s Philipp Kohlschreiber in one hour and 57 minutes.

Former world number three Nikolay Davydenko had no such problems as he beat local hero Robin Haase 7-5 6-2 in 87 minutes.

Jarkko Nieminen beat Dutch wild card Igor Sijsling 6-1 6-7 (9) 7-5 while Andreas Seppi defeated South African qualifier Rik de Voest 1-6 7-6 (5) 6-2.
