Newcastle vs Tottenham tips and predictions: Floodgate of goals to open up at St James’ Park

Tottenham will be looking to strengthen their top four bid when they travel to Newcastle this Saturday afternoon (1230 BST).

With Aston Villa enduring a dip in form at the worst time of the season, Tottenham have seemingly capitalised and are now the frontrunners to claim the last Champions League spot.

Ange Postecoglou’s men have won four of their last six Premier League games, including an impressive 3-1 success against Nottingham Forest last Sunday.

A win over Newcastle this weekend would enhance Tottenham’s top four bid, though getting that victory may be easier said than done.

The Magpies, who have been up and down this season, have caught a bit of wind in this run-in as they look to chase for a European spot themselves.

Eddie Howe’s men are unbeaten in their last three matches and have won two of those to move just two points behind sixth-placed Manchester United.

One thing we should be guaranteed in this upcoming encounter is goals. Over the last six matches alone, the net has rippled on 30 ocassions.

Tottenham won the last outing 4-1 while Newcastle thrashed Spurs 6-1 in the meeting before that.

Both teams have scored in their last seven head-to-heads and with the stakes high on Saturday, we expect more of the same.

Both sides to get on the scoresheet, over 3.5 goals and the match to end in a draw is the way to go.

Newcastle have drawn three of their last five games at St James' Park – all of which saw both teams score.

Team news

Newcastle could put together a half-decent team with the players on their absentee list alone. Miguel Almiron, Sven Botman, Joelinton, Jamaal Lascelles, Valentino Livramento, Lewis Miley, Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson are all injured.

Sandro Tonali remains suspended while Matt Targett is a doubt.

Spurs, meanwhile, are missing Fraser Forster, Richarlison, Ryan Sessegnon and Manor Solomon.
