Crystal Palace vs Newcastle tips and predictions: Magpies extend unbeaten run against Eagles

Selhurst Park will be bouncing about the possibility of a third-consecutive win when Newcastle United visit in Premier League action on Thursday.

The Eagles will be flying high after dismantling fellow Londoners West Ham last time out, but the sneaky Magpies are climbing the table again after back-to-back wins.

Crystal Palace have also won their last two matches, which means they’re probably safe, and sets them up for a letdown against sixth-place Newcastle.

Sixth and seventh may mean European football and Eddie Howe’s side are locked in at least a four-way battle, with Man Utd, West Ham, Chelsea and Brighton all lurking behind them.

The Toon conceded plenty of possession when winning 1-0 at Craven Cottage last weekend, displaying the resilience underpinning their success since Howe’s arrival.

Palace produced a very occasional outburst under Roy Hodgson, though Saturday’s romp was the first we’ve seen under Oliver Glasner, so expect a regression to the mean.

Palace usually finds the net these days, particularly when Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are pulling strings, but we’ll predict one or fewer goals for them on Wednesday.

On the other hand, United’s form has been steadily building since beating Fulham in the FA Cup in January, so we’re happy to take a chance on the visitors despite some injury concerns.

However, it’s worth noting they haven’t recorded three clean sheets in a row since the relatively simple task of facing Brentford, Sheffield United and Burnley in September.

They are one of five teams to prevent Palace from scoring this season, although the home side have found the net in their last nine.

Teams news

Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure, Jefferson Lerma, Marc Geuhi, Rob Holding and Matheus Franca are ruled out for Crystal Palace.

Olise and Eze have produced five goal involvements in Palace’s previous two matches and will continue their roles behind Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Newcastle’s jam-packed treatment room features Sven Botman, Jamaal Lascelles, Joe Willock, Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Kieran Trippier, Nick Pope, Miguel Almiron and Matt Targett.

Sandro Tonali remains suspended for betting offences while Callum Wilson could return if he passes a late fitness test.
