‘Owners are investing’ - Ex Man United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic defends Glazers amid unrest

Former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has defended the Glazer family and questioned the criticism the club’s owners have received over investment.

Erik ten Hag’s men have endured a rotten start to the campaign, winning four of their 10 matches across all competitions.

United fell to their second straight loss on Tuesday night as Galatasaray picked up a famous 3-2 Champions League success at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are in the midst of their worst start to a campaign in 34 years, with pressure quickly piling on the current manager and those above him.

Current owners, the Glazer family, have faced criticism and protests from fans for a number of years.

The Glazers were open to selling the club earlier in the year as British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari Shaikh Jassim both showed interest.

However, negotiations appear to have stalled with a potential takeover currently out of sight.

Former United frontman Ibrahimovic believes the current owners have done their part when it comes to investing in the playing group.

In an interview with Piers Morgan, he said: "I think now in Man Utd, I don't know, there are some kind of demonstrations about the owners to sell it and that, but just a reminder, the owners are investing.

"It is not like they are not investing because they brought in many players for a high amount of money.

"So I think it's a little bit wrong saying that they are not doing what the fans expect them to do, then I don't know what the real reason is behind everything."

This summer alone, the club have splashed over £150m on names such as Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount.

United will be looking for a return to winning ways when they take on Brentford this weekend at Old Trafford.
