Deco's Barcelona revolution: Embracing youth and shunning age

FC Barcelona's sporting department is set for a makeover under the guidance of former football maestro Deco.

With his deep understanding of the beautiful game and a keen eye for talent, Deco is steering the Catalan giants in a new direction.

One key shift in Barcelona's transfer strategy is a renewed emphasis on youth. Deco's knowledge of the Brazilian market is expected to bring a fresh influx of South American talent to Camp Nou. As he takes the helm, the club are gearing up to harness the potential of emerging stars.

Deco's vision extends beyond youth, though. According to reports by SPORT, he is determined to implement a policy that limits signings to players under the age of 30. This marks a significant departure from Barcelona's recent history, where they occasionally dipped into the free-agent pool to acquire more experienced players.

In recent years, Barcelona welcomed the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sergio Aguero, and Dani Alves, all of whom were above the age of 30. However, Deco, mindful of the club's financial situation, aims to curtail this trend.

The summer transfer window saw the arrival of three players over 30: Inigo Martinez, Oriol Romeu, and Ilkay Gundogan. Deco and the Barcelona hierarchy believe that the veteran quota in the squad has been adequately filled.

Looking ahead, Deco's plan is clear: Barcelona will steer clear of players over 30 unless the opportunity is too irresistible to ignore, akin to the signings of Gundogan and Robert Lewandowski. Deco's rationale lies in the belief that players in this age range do not offer the prospect of a profitable resale value.

While Barcelona continue to explore the market for opportunities, they are expected to approach players above the age of 30 with caution. Deco's vision represents a strategic shift, one that aims to balance the immediate needs of the team with a sustainable approach for the future.

In this new era, youth will be the cornerstone, and experienced campaigners will only be enlisted if they present a unique and compelling proposition.
