Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane praised hooker Michael McIlorum’s performance in Saturday’s 20-6 Super League win over Leeds Rhinos.
Wane was pleased with the overall performance of his side against the defending champions but singled out McIlorum for his fine defensive work.
“I thought Mickey McIlorum was by far the stand out performer, how he threw himself into his defence, I thought his skills were very very good, he was continually a threat to Leeds, he was by far and away our best player I thought,” Wane told Wigan Warriors’ official website.
“He was always going to be my number one starter at hooker, I rate him, I have had him since he was a kid and he will get better.
“There are areas in his game he can still improve in, people think he is playing well, but I can tell you there is still improvement in him.
“Darrell Goulding had one of his best games against a quality team as well. Overall the whole team responded really well, the mentality of the team was outstanding,” he added.
