Walters reveals Oscar Whiskey thinking

2012-02-06 02:48:39

The Nicky Henderson-trained gelding was due for a run-out at Ffos Las at the weekend in the Welsh Champion Hurdle but, like many meetings in the UK, it fell victim to the cold snap.
Walters seems to have ruled out the National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell at the end of the month as being too close to the Cheltenham Festival, which starts on March 13.
There is now the prospect of Oscar Whiskey heading to the Gloucestershire showpiece to take on current ante-post favourite Big Buck’s over three miles in the World Hurdle, although he also has a Champion Hurdle entry.
Walters told Sporting Life: “Big Buck’s is a great horse, but he hasn’t had that many really good horses run against him.
“It would be nice to win, but we know it’s a difficult task and as we know with horses, anything can happen in the next few weeks. I think Oscar Whisky will stay three miles and I’m looking forward to it.”
