Walsh fails in ban appeal

The jockey was handed the suspension following last weekend’s JCB Triumph Hurdle Trial, being cited for interference as his mount, Pearl Swan, leaned into Grumeti and the race stewards deemed this final furlong incident as race-affecting.
Walsh pleaded his case at a British Horseracing Authority (BHA) hearing on Thursday morning but his appeal was dismissed, meaning he misses the Betfair Hurdle fixture at Newbury on February 11.
However, his request to defer the second day of his suspension was accepted so he is able to rise at the Irish Hennessy Gold Cup meeting at Leopardstown on February 12.
Nicky Lander from the BHA said: “I can confirm that Ruby Walsh’s appeal against his three-day ban has been dismissed.”
The organisation then said on Twitter: “BHA confirm receipt of request from Ruby Walsh to defer Day 2 of suspension due to Grade 1 race taking place in Ireland on Sunday 12th Feb.
“Ruby Walsh suspension dates will be Saturday 11th, Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th February 2012.”
