Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has launched a scathing attack on the Spanish media for attempting to unsettle star striker Robin van Persie.
Spanish newspaper Marca this week claimed Van Persie was ‘excited at the prospect’ of playing for Real Madrid, who are thought to be interested in securing the Dutchman’s services.
However, the Gunners captain, who has already slammed home 28 goals in all competitions this season, insists he did not give any such interview, leaving Wenger spitting mad with the Spanish press.
“Frankly, Marca is as creative as some English newspapers. That means you cannot believe every word that is said in Marca,” the manager said.
“They don’t care, Marca, at all. I think they are even far more from real evidence than any English newspapers. They create just stories.”
Van Persie had earlier said on social networking site Twitter: “Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day.”
