Tottenham 3-1 Wigan

Gareth Bale found the net twice as Tottenham Hotspur cruised to victory over bottom club Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane on Tuesday.

Bale opened the scoring after twenty-nine minutes after he was found in the right channel by a delightful pass from Luka Modric. Bale controlled well and powered into the area before beating Ali Al-Habsi at the near post.

Five minutes later Modric added the second. Wigan failed to clear Benoit Assou-Ekotto’s cross effectively and Modric punished them by driving the loose ball into the bottom corner.

Wigan offered very little in attack for most of the game and fell further behind just after the hour mark. Bale again was the scorer as he beat Ben Watson on the edge of the box and drilled the ball low into the far corner.

Brad Friedel was denied a clean sheet as Victor Moses played in James McArthur whose shot looped over the stranded American after a big deflection off Scott Parker on eighty minutes.

The result sees Spurs move back to within five points of league leaders Manchester City after their defeat at Goodison Park. Wigan remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after four consecutive league defeats.
