In a dramatic finish, ten-man Wigan came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Stoke on Saturday.
Two goals in seven minutes saw Stoke come from one behind to lead the visitors with six minutes to play, only to concede an equaliser soon after in a breath-taking finish at the Britannia Stadium.
The opening goal came on the stroke of half-time, as Victor Moses turned home Hugo Rodallega’s low cross. Moses got across his marker and stabbed into the net from close range.
A dramatic final fifteen minutes started as Gary Caldwell threw himself across his goalline to handle Jonathan Walters’ shot off the line. The Scot was dismissed and Stoke were awarded a penalty, which Walters took and converted emphatically.
With six minutes to play, the home side were ahead as Walters turned Peter Crouch’s flick on into substitute Cameron Jerome, who finished into the bottom corner. Seconds later, Wigan had a penalty of their own as Ryan Shotton hauled down Hugo Rodallega in the box. Ben Watson was brought off the bench to take the spot-kick and the decision paid dividends as he fired home confidently.
