Ranieri dismisses Sneijder exit

2012-02-13 01:04:56

Inter Milan manager Claudio Ranieri claims Wesley Sneijder is “happy” at the club after rumours of the midfielder’s exit resurfaced.

The football market during the European off-season, as well as the January transfer window, was flooded with speculation of the Holland international’s San Siro departure.

Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United were continually linked with the playmaker, only for him to invariably stay on at the Serie A club.

Talk is now doing the rounds that big-spending Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, who already have former Inter striker Samual Eto’o on their books, are lining up a bid for Sneidjer.

Ranieri, however, has insisted that the 28-year-old remains as fully-committed to the Nerazzurri’s cause as ever.

“Could he be on his way to Anzhi? As far as I’m concerned, and I hope the player too, no,” the Italian tactician told Inter’s official website.

“I asked him: ‘Do you feel you are important for this team? Because you are important for us,’ and he replied ‘Yes, I’m happy here’.

“He’s a champion, he just has to find his rhythm again and we have to work out again how to keep him supplied with the ball, just as he has to work out how to feed our strikers.

“He has told me he is happy here at Inter, so I’m pretty calm.”
