Pienaar training with Ajax CT

Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar will be training with Ajax Cape Town this week as he prepares for the international friendly against Senegal at the end of February.

The Tottenham midfielder, who is on-loan at Everton until the end of the season, left English shores on Monday and will be utilising the Urban Warriors’ training facilities as he looks to maintain his fitness during his time in the Mother City.

Ajax’s public relations officer Shooz Mekuto confirmed the playmaker would be running drills with the team he began his professional career with over 10 years ago.

“Yes, Pienaar is training with us on Wednesday and Thursday. He’s not new to the environment so he feels good and comfortable here,” Mekuto told Sport24.

Pienaar, a former Ajax Amsterdam and Borussia Dortmund ace, is likely to offer plenty of knowledge and inspiration to the Urban Warriors, who face a tricky PSL clash against city rivals Santos at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday evening.
