Neville: Back in the groove

The doom clouds that hovered over Goodison Park at the end of 2011 have disappeared, according to Everton captain Phil Neville.
It was not that long ago that Everton were far too close to the relegation zone as they struggled to string some decent results together.
Fast-forward a few weeks and suddenly things are looking up for the Merseysiders after a couple of decent signings and some excellent results in both the Premier League and FA Cup.
Toffees skipper Neville admits manager David Moyes’ “wheeling and dealing” during the transfer window has played a major role in their mini revival.
“Darron Gibson has come from a good pedigree, Steven Pienaar knows the club, Landon Donovan knows all about us and Nikica Jelavic is the goalscorer we have all been looking for,” he told the Daily Post.
“When you make three quality signings like that, it’s a signal that we want to be in the top half of the table and pushing for European football.
“The manager has done well from his wheeling and dealing in the transfer market, and that’s why he is one of the top managers in England.
“I think he needed the spark as much as anyone else. It’s definitely been a happier place to be around since fresh faces have been brought in and the challenge is there for everyone.”
Everton will be looking to continue their good form this weekend when they take on Championship outfit Blackpool in the FA Cup at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Blackpool had a reputation for being too attacking when they played in the Premier League last year, but Neville warns his team-mates that it will be a “different kettle of fish” this time.
“I watched Blackpool against Sheffield Wednesday,” said Neville. “You forget what they were like last season. They were totally gung-ho, playing 4-2-4, but then they got relegated.
“They probably suffered at the start of this season but they are on a nice little run at the moment and have got their confidence and swagger back.
“Saturday is going to be a totally different kettle of fish. Blackpool will bring six to eight thousand people here, it’ll be a cup tie and league form goes out of the window.
“It’s a big one for the club in terms of silverware. This is our only opportunity to win something this season.”
