McLeish not jealous of Hughes

2012-02-01 11:33:50

Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish insists he is not envious of the spending power afforded to his QPR counterpart Mark Hughes.

With the two teams set to clash in the Premier League on Wednesday night, McLeish is unconcerned with the business of the opposition during the January transfer window.

“He’s getting a few bob to spend straight away and that will help him stamp his identity on the team,” McLeish said of Hughes.

“I’m not jealous of him when you know the parameters. I’ve been in this situation many times before and when it is not in your control there is no point in being jealous or worrying about it.

“It’s about getting the best out of players we have and we have some very good players.”

While Rangers have recruited Djibril Cisse, Bobby Zamora, Federico Macheda, Nedum Onuoha and Samba Diakate during the transfer window, Villa have been quiet with only Robbie Keane coming to Villa Park on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy.

McLeish is now looking towards the fit-again Charles N’Zogbia to boost his squad.

“We are looking for big things from Charles in a Villa shirt for this season and beyond,” said the Scot.

“I’m sure he is very determined as an individual to make his mark at Aston Villa.

“Charles is capable of greater things; there is no doubt about that. I am sure he will show everybody at this club what he can do.

“Goals and assists were his trademark at Wigan and at Newcastle and that should be evidence for Charles that he has that in his locker.”
