Manchester United v Ajax

2012-02-22 01:04:53

Following a 2-0 victory in the first leg of their Europa League tie, Manchester United will be aiming to book their place in the last 16 of the competition when they host Ajax for the return leg at Old Trafford on Thursday.

With the Red Devils set to take on Norwich in the Premier League just two days later, Sir Alex Ferguson could opt to rest a number of key players for the clash against the Dutch giants.

There are, however, still a lot of injuries in the UNited squad and all of Antonio Valencia (hamstring), Anders Lindegaard (ankle), Anderson (knock), Nemanja Vidic (knee), Darren Fletcher (bowel condition) and Michael Owen (thigh) are unavailable.

The good news for Ferguson is that Ryan Giggs and Dimitar Berbatov have recovered from the injuries which kept them out of the first leg. Should Giggs be selected for the tie, it will be his 900th appearance for the English champions.

Old Trafford has become a fortress in recent months as the Red Devils have not lost any of their last 11 home matches in Europe.

Ajax, meanwhile, have lost just five of their last 20 away Europa League matches, but are carrying numerous injuries in their squad.

Derk Boerrigter (back), Gregory van der Wiel (groin), Eyong Enoh (hamstring), Andre Ooijer (calf) and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson (leg) are all doubtful.
