Former Arsenal star Freddie Ljungberg’s proposed move to the Premier Soccer League could be back on the cards after the midfielder left Japanese outfit Shimizu S-Pulse by mutual consent on Tuesday.
The Swede, one of the ‘Invincibles’ with the Gunners in the Premier League’s 2003/04 campaign, has been tipped with a move to Orlando Pirates, who have already brought in world footballing icons Benni McCarthy and Luis Boa Morte this season.
Ljungberg knows Boa Morte from their time together at West Ham, while McCarthy is another familiar face for the playmaker, with South Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer having also previously plied his trade in England’s top-flight.
Ljungberg’s representative, Walid Bouzid, told SuperSport: “(Ljungberg) wants to play in a club battling for league titles, but he also wants his final project to give him a chance to give something back to society.”
The Buccaneers still have one more slot left in their foreign quota and are eligible to make a move for Ljungberg, who could sign on as a free agent.
