Kenny hails star-studded win

Kenny Dalglish believes Sunday’s 6-1 FA Cup thrashing of Brighton was only a taste of what Liverpool are capable of with all their key players on the pitch.

The Reds hammered the hapless Seagulls to book their spot in the quarter-finals with Steven Gerrard, Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez having started their first game together.

While his side’s performance showed a new-found killer instinct with the star trio in the mix, Dalglish insisted praise should also go to the rest of his squad.

“The three of them are fantastic footballers and they played really well,” said the Reds boss.

“The more any team gets iconic players like they are on the pitch the better chance they have of being successful.

“But we have got more than three players. The fact we have done as well as we have and that was the first time the three of them have started a match tells you how well the other boys have done.

“We will stand and be counted as a squad and I don’t think we have done too badly this year.”

Carroll got himself on the scoresheet at the weekend with a good goal, but the striker’s hefty price tag still has the Merseyside faithful expecting more.

Daglish, though, claims the £35million man has the unbridled support of the club and his team-mates, saying: We have always been positive, and we always will be,” said the Liverpool boss.

“We will always be supportive of any player who comes to this football club.

“It doesn’t matter what his name is. We will judge him and we will judge whether we are happy or unhappy.”
