Huntelaar eyes Golden Boot

Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is confident he will edge Bayern Munich’s Mario Gomez to the Bundesliga Golden Boot award.

Huntelaar is currently locked in the race with Gomez on 18 goals apiece, but insists he will come out on top at the end of the season, despite missing a penalty against Wolfsburg at the weekend.

“That was really frustrating. I really hit the penalty badly,” the Netherlands international told Bild.

“Of course I want to score more than Gomez. I am delighted to be at the top of the scoring charts.”

The 28-year-old will have the chance to take the lead over his rival this Sunday when their respective clubs clash at the Allianz Arena.

Huntelaar added: “It would be great for the team if I were to score against Bayern, but they are at home so they are the favourites.”
