Sir Alex Ferguson has always treated him as a son, so it’s no surprise Paul Scholes has backed Ryan Giggs as the Scot’s successor at Old Trafford.
Ferguson is still going strong as Manchester United’s longest-serving manager having celebrated his 25th year at the helm this season.
Regardless of the 70-year-old’s vigor for the game, the former Aberdeen boss can’t go on forever and speculation over who will take over the reins at United hots up as every season passes by.
Real Madrid’s Jose Mourinho and Barcelona’s Pep Guardiola are some of the names been bandied about as possible candidates for the Red Devils’ top job.
But legendary United midfielder Scholes believes fellow team-mate and club stalwart Giggs has the respect of his peers, his manager, and the supporters to throw his hat in the ring.
“People have talked about Mourinho,” Scholes told FourFourTwo.
“It can change quickly - it’s about who is successful at the time. Whether they are British or foreign, you just want the best man for the job.
“I could see Ryan Giggs becoming manager.”
Giggs, on the brink of his 900th appearance for United, last week signed a one-year contract extension with the Red Devils that will see the Welsh winger compete in the top-flight at the age of 39.
