Everton appear to have jumped to the front of the queue in the race to sign Rangers striker Nikica Jelavic.
According to newspaper reports, the Toffees tabled an initial bid for the sought-after forward over the weekend. The expectation is that they will revise their offer to a figure close to the £6million mark plus add-ons.
David Moyes, who has money to spend after selling Diniyar Bilyaletdinov to Spartak Moscow for £5million, is keen to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes.
Jelavic is reported to have told Gers boss Ally McCoist that he wants to move to Everton, whose Merseyside rivals, Liverpool, have also been credited with interest in the Croatia international.
In fact, Jelavic’s father claimed a week ago that his son favoured a move to Anfield ahead of QPR and West Ham, although Liverpool’s response was to deny any interest in the player.
Jelavic was later reported as saying that he would have no reservations about swapping the Scottish champions for championship side West Ham, who have also registered their interest in the former Rapid Vienna star.
