Butterfield: wants game time

Danny Butterfield is keen to make a contribution to Southampton’s promotion bid after an extended spell on the fringes of the first team.
The full-back has not started a league match for the Saints since the victory at Middlesbrough in October and last tuned out for the promotion hopefuls in January.
Now nearing full fitness following a hamstring injury, Butterfield has sent a ‘please pick me’ message to manager Nigel Adkins.
“That seems like a long time ago now,” he told the club’s official website. “We played against Palace in the Cup on the Tuesday and then I lined up on the Saturday against Middlesbrough and it was certainly a game that I enjoyed and felt on the back of that performance that I could have played a lot more since between then and now.
“That’s not been the case, but I’m sure that the gaffer will give me plenty of game time between now and the end and I’ll certainly prove my worth.
“Ideally I’d like to play more between now and the end of the season. I want to give the team my all and hopefully that’s enough from my contribution to go with the rest of the lads and we get promoted.”
